Intense rainfall triggered multiple landslides in the Darjeeling hills and Sikkim, disrupting roads and prompting emergency response.
Heavy monsoon rains in late July set off a series of landslides along the Darjeeling ridge and in parts of Sikkim, causing road blockages and evacuations.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed to clear debris from the main access roads, while local police cordoned off affected areas to prevent further accidents.
Preliminary reports indicate that the landslides displaced several households and damaged agricultural land, but no fatalities have been confirmed as of now.
Authorities urged residents to stay away from steep slopes and to monitor weather updates from the Indian Meteorological Department.
