The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Jammu & Kashmir, urging residents to take precautionary measures.

The Indian Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a weather alert for Jammu & Kashmir, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the state. The forecast covers the entire region, with the most intense showers expected over the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu district.

Meteorologists warn that the rainfall could reach 50–70 mm in some areas, potentially leading to localized flooding and landslides. The Department has advised residents in vulnerable districts to stay indoors and keep emergency supplies ready.

The warning is in effect from 6 pm today until 6 am tomorrow, with a secondary alert for the possibility of hail and strong winds. Authorities have urged commuters to avoid traveling on highways and to monitor local radio and television for updates.

The MeT has also requested that local municipalities prepare drainage systems and ensure that emergency services are on standby to respond to any incidents arising from the heavy weather.
