The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for southern states and warned of strong winds over the Arabian Sea, urging residents to stay alert.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather advisory today, flagging the possibility of heavy rainfall across the southern region of the country. The alert covers the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, where the monsoon trough is expected to intensify over the next 48 hours.

Simultaneously, the IMD warned that strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 60 km/h, are likely to develop over the Arabian Sea. These conditions could affect maritime activities, fishing vessels and coastal communities along the western coastline.

Authorities have urged residents in the affected districts to avoid non‑essential travel, secure loose objects, and stay updated with local bulletins. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any flood‑related incidents.

The department will continue to monitor the system and issue further updates as the situation evolves.
