The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority has warned of heavy rainfall across the coastal and Malnad regions, urging residents to take precautions.

The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued a heavy‑rain warning covering the state’s coastal belt and the hilly Malnad region. Meteorological forecasts indicate that intense showers are likely to persist over the next 48 hours, with the potential to exceed normal rainfall thresholds.

Authorities have cautioned that the expected downpours could trigger flash floods in low‑lying areas and landslides on steep slopes, especially in districts such as Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan. Residents in vulnerable zones are advised to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep emergency kits ready.

The disaster management agency has mobilised rescue teams, pre‑positioned sandbags, and set up temporary shelters in anticipation of any displacement. Schools and public offices in the most at‑risk districts may be closed or operate on reduced hours, while transport services are being monitored for safety.

KSDMA officials have urged the public to follow updates from the Karnataka State Meteorological Department and to cooperate with local authorities should evacuation orders be issued.
