The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for several districts of Rajasthan, citing a new weather system over the Bay of Bengal that could trigger intense showers from September 2.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the monsoon will regain momentum in Rajasthan starting September 2. A developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to channel moisture north‑westward, bringing the first significant showers of the season to the state.

Meteorologists highlighted the districts of Kota, Udaipur and Bharatpur as the most vulnerable, with forecasts indicating possible heavy rainfall within a short span. The IMD has raised the alert level for these areas, urging residents to stay prepared for sudden downpours.

Authorities in the affected districts have been instructed to monitor water levels in rivers and drainage systems, and to activate emergency response teams if needed. The public is advised to avoid non‑essential travel during the forecasted periods of intense rain.

While the rest of Rajasthan may experience scattered showers, the primary concern remains the potential for localized flooding in low‑lying zones. The IMD will continue to update forecasts as the system evolves.

The alert underscores the importance of early preparedness as the monsoon season approaches its peak, aiming to minimise disruption and safeguard lives and property across the state.
