HealthCare Global (HCG) has begun treating cancer patients using the state’s inaugural Elekta Unity MR‑Linac, introducing MR‑guided adaptive radiation therapy in Karnataka.
HealthCare Global (HCG) has commenced clinical use of the Elekta Unity MR‑Linac, the first machine of its kind in Karnataka. The system combines magnetic resonance imaging with a linear accelerator, allowing oncologists to tailor radiation doses in real time based on tumor movement and anatomy.
The inaugural patient was treated earlier this week, marking the rollout of MR‑guided adaptive radiation therapy across the state. Doctors say the technology can improve targeting accuracy, potentially reducing side effects compared with conventional radiotherapy.
The installation, part of a broader effort to upgrade cancer care infrastructure in South India, was funded jointly by HCG and Elekta. Officials expect the platform to serve a growing number of patients with complex tumours, such as those in the brain, head‑neck and abdomen.
Industry observers note that the move positions Karnataka among a limited number of Indian states with access to advanced MR‑Linac systems, which are still scarce nationwide.
