The Delhi neighbourhood of Hauz Rani is slowly recovering from recent floods, but the number of foreign residents remains very low.
The Delhi neighbourhood of Hauz Rani suffered extensive damage during the monsoon‑driven floods that hit the city last month. Heavy rainfall caused the nearby canal to overflow, leaving several streets water‑logged and damaging homes and businesses.
Local authorities and community groups have begun clearing debris and repairing infrastructure. Roadways are being resurfaced and drainage systems are being upgraded to prevent a repeat of the flooding.
Despite the reconstruction work, the area still reports a markedly low presence of foreign residents. Many expatriates who had previously lived in the upscale part of Hauz Rani have moved to other parts of the city or abroad, citing safety concerns and the slow pace of recovery.
City officials say that once the drainage improvements are complete and the area is fully restored, they expect the population to return to pre‑flood levels, including the expatriate community.
