The Haryana government has published a comprehensive gazetteer of Rohtak district, the first edition in more than five decades.

The state of Haryana has officially released a new gazetteer covering Rohtak district, marking the first such publication in 55 years. The volume compiles detailed information on the district's geography, history, demographics, economy and cultural heritage, aiming to serve researchers, planners and the general public.

Prepared under the direction of the Haryana Department of Revenue and Land Records, the gazetteer draws on archival records, recent surveys and field studies conducted over the past few years. Officials said the document reflects the district's evolution since the last edition, which was issued in the early 1970s.

The launch ceremony was held in Rohtak, where senior state officials highlighted the gazetteer's role in informing policy decisions and preserving local history. A printed copy will be made available in district libraries and online portals for wider accessibility.

Stakeholders, including academicians and civil society groups, have welcomed the publication, noting that such reference works are essential for evidence‑based planning and for fostering a deeper understanding of regional identity.

The gazetteer is expected to be updated periodically, with the next revision slated for the coming decade, ensuring that future generations have an authoritative source on Rohtak's development.
