Haryana farmers call off protest after govt permits paddy sales at mandis

Farmers across several districts of Haryana halted a week‑long stir on Wednesday following an announcement by the state government that paddy can be sold directly at agricultural mandis. The move addresses long‑standing grievances over restricted market access, which had forced many cultivators to rely on private traders at lower prices. Officials said the decision will be implemented immediately, allowing growers to transport their harvested grain to any licensed mandi without prior approval. Agricultural department sources indicated that the policy shift aims to stabilise farm incomes ahead of the upcoming rabi season. The protest, which had seen farmers block highways and stage sit‑ins at district headquarters, concluded peacefully as participants thanked the administration for the concession.
