Central Minister Hardeep Puri won the Rajya Sabha by‑poll from Madhya Pradesh unopposed after the Election Commission cancelled the nominations of two rivals.
The Election Commission of India declared central minister Hardeep Puri elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh after it invalidated the nomination papers of two other aspirants. The decision was announced following a routine scrutiny of the candidates' documents for the by‑election that was scheduled to fill a vacant seat in the Upper House.
Puri, a senior leader of the ruling party, was the sole remaining nominee after the two challengers were disqualified on grounds of procedural irregularities. With no other valid candidates left in the fray, the commission issued a certificate of election, making him the first unopposed Rajya Sabha member from the state in this cycle.
Political observers noted that the cancellation cleared the path for a smooth entry of the minister into the Upper House, while opposition parties expressed disappointment over the lack of a contested poll. The unopposed win underscores the ruling coalition's strong foothold in Madhya Pradesh's parliamentary landscape.
