The Gujarat government announced a new tourism drive that will develop homestays in 100 villages across the state, aiming to boost rural income and promote cultural tourism.
Gujarat's tourism department unveiled a programme to set up homestay facilities in one hundred villages, marking a focused effort to diversify the state's tourism offerings. The initiative will identify eligible villages, provide training to local families, and facilitate infrastructure upgrades such as clean water, sanitation and internet connectivity.
State officials said the scheme is designed to generate additional earnings for rural households while offering visitors authentic experiences of Gujarati culture, cuisine and crafts. Financial assistance and a modest grant will be extended to participating families to refurbish rooms and meet basic hospitality standards.
The government plans to roll out the project in phases, beginning with pilot villages in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions. Monitoring committees will assess compliance and visitor feedback, with the goal of scaling the model to other districts if successful.
