The Gujarat government has updated the classification of its talukas as part of the latest industrial policy, redefining eligibility for incentives and development schemes.
Gujarat's state administration announced a revision of the taluka-wise classification used in its industrial policy framework. The re‑categorisation aims to align local administrative units with the state's growth objectives, ensuring that areas with higher investment potential receive appropriate incentives.
Under the updated scheme, talukas will be placed into distinct tiers based on parameters such as infrastructure readiness, land availability, and existing industrial activity. Businesses seeking to set up units can now refer to the new tier list to understand the level of support, subsidies, and tax benefits they may qualify for.
The government said the move is intended to streamline approvals and attract greater private capital to under‑developed regions while rewarding talukas that have already demonstrated robust industrial performance. Officials will publish the detailed classification chart on the department's website within the next week.
Industry bodies have welcomed the clarity, noting that a transparent, data‑driven classification can reduce ambiguities in project planning. The state expects the revised policy to boost manufacturing output and generate additional employment across Gujarat's diverse districts.
