Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Gujarat now operates 19 airports, marking a major step in the state's aviation infrastructure development.

Gujarat's aviation network has expanded to 19 operational airports, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced on Thursday, highlighting the state's aggressive push to improve air connectivity. The addition brings the total number of airports under the state government's purview to a record high, positioning Gujarat as one of the most aerodynamically equipped states in India.
Patel said the expansion is part of a broader strategy to link tier‑2 and tier‑3 cities with major commercial hubs, thereby stimulating trade, tourism and investment. The government has been coordinating with the central Ministry of Civil Aviation and private operators to upgrade facilities, improve runway standards and introduce modern passenger amenities.
Looking ahead, the state plans to leverage the existing infrastructure under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) to attract new airlines and increase flight frequencies. Officials expect the enhanced network to generate employment, boost regional economies and reduce travel time for residents across Gujarat.
