Recent statistics reveal that Gujarat is lagging behind other Indian states in registering new industrial units.

Recent data released by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs indicates that Gujarat recorded fewer new industry registrations this year compared with leading states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. The figures place the western state behind the national average in terms of fresh industrial units being set up.

Analysts point to a combination of factors, including procedural delays in approval processes and a perception of a less aggressive investment promotion policy, as possible reasons for the slowdown. Competing states have introduced faster single‑window clearances and incentive packages that appear to be attracting more entrepreneurs.

State officials, however, have acknowledged the gap and said they are reviewing existing regulations to simplify the registration workflow. They have promised to roll out targeted measures aimed at improving the ease of doing business and reviving Gujarat’s traditional reputation as an industrial hub.
