A complaint has been lodged after the photograph of Gujarat’s deputy chief minister was used to circulate a fabricated news story.

A formal complaint was filed with the Gujarat police after a digitally altered image of the state's deputy chief minister appeared in a misleading online post. The post presented the photograph as evidence of a political scandal, but officials confirmed that the picture had been manipulated and bore no factual basis.

The deputy chief minister's office condemned the misuse, stating that spreading false narratives undermines public trust and can have legal repercussions. The police have opened an investigation to trace the source of the fake content and to determine whether any cyber‑law violations occurred.

Authorities have warned that individuals found guilty of creating or disseminating such fabricated material could face penalties under India's Information Technology Act, which penalises the publication of false information with intent to deceive.
