Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched 101 Shramik Annapurna Yojana centres across 28 districts of Gujarat, aiming to provide subsidised meals to daily‑wage workers.
Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel officially opened 101 Shramik Annapurna Yojana centres today, covering 28 districts of the state. The scheme, launched under the state government's welfare portfolio, is designed to offer affordable, nutritious meals to daily‑wage labourers and other vulnerable workers.
Each centre will operate on a subscription model, providing two meals a day at a heavily subsidised rate. The government estimates that the network will serve over a million workers within the first year, helping to alleviate food insecurity among low‑income earners.
The rollout is part of a broader effort by the Gujarat administration to strengthen social safety nets ahead of the upcoming fiscal cycle. Officials said the centres will be monitored by local municipal bodies to ensure quality and price compliance.
State officials highlighted that the initiative complements existing schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swasthya Yojana, creating a comprehensive support system for the state's most vulnerable populations.
The inauguration was attended by senior ministers, district collectors and representatives of workers' unions, who praised the government's focus on basic nutrition for the labour force.
