Meteorological departments have issued alerts for Gujarat as a monsoon trough moves inland, bringing sustained heavy showers across the state.
The India Meteorological Department has flagged a deep monsoon trough moving westward into Gujarat, predicting heavy rainfall to persist through the next 48 hours.
The system is expected to deliver widespread showers, with accumulations of 50-100 mm in coastal districts such as Kutch, Surat and Rajkot, while inland areas may see 30-60 mm.
Authorities have placed the state on a red alert, urging residents to avoid low‑lying areas, secure property, and stay updated via official channels. Relief teams are on standby.
The continued deluge could disrupt transport, agriculture and power supply, and officials have warned of possible flash floods in river basins.
