The first look at Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ has drawn comparisons to Marvel blockbusters, prompting mixed reactions from Indian audiences.
The newly released trailer of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film based on C.S. Lewis’s “The Chronicles of Narnia” has quickly become a talking point across social media. The short video, unveiled online, showcases the director’s vision of the classic fantasy world, featuring sweeping landscapes and a blend of magic and modern visual effects.
Viewers have noted a striking resemblance to the high‑octane style of Marvel superhero movies, with rapid cuts, dynamic camera work and a soundtrack that leans toward the epic. Critics point to the use of CGI‑intensive battle sequences and a glossy colour palette as evidence of the Marvel‑inspired aesthetic.
Indian fans have reacted in two camps: some applaud Gerwig’s fresh, cinematic approach, while others feel the trailer strays too far from the literary tone of the original books. The divide has sparked lively debate on platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, with hashtags ranging from praise for the visual spectacle to calls for a more faithful adaptation.
The film, slated for a worldwide release later this year, will be distributed by major studios in India, raising expectations that the final product will either cement Gerwig’s reputation as a versatile director or face scrutiny from purist fans of the beloved series.
