Madhya Pradesh Tourism’s Assistant Chief Secretary inspected the site where a museum dedicated to sarangi virtuoso Ustad Alauddin Khan will be built in Maher.
The Assistant Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department visited Maher this week to review plans for a new museum that will house the artistic legacy of sarangi maestro Ustad Alauddin Khan. The inspection focused on the proposed location, architectural layout and the preservation facilities required for the maestro’s instruments, recordings and personal memorabilia.
State officials said the museum will be a flagship cultural project, aiming to showcase Khan’s contributions to Hindustani classical music and to promote Maher as a heritage tourism destination. Design sketches indicate a modern gallery space combined with a research centre for scholars and students of Indian classical music.
Construction is slated to begin later this year, with an expected completion timeline of two to three years. Authorities hope the museum will attract music enthusiasts from across the country and boost local employment through tourism‑related activities.
