The central government has approved the addition of 320 postgraduate medical seats across six government medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh.

New Delhi – The Union Health Ministry has given the green light for 320 new postgraduate (PG) medical seats to be offered by six government medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. The decision, announced by the centre, aims to expand specialist training capacity in the hilly state.

The approved seats will be distributed among the participating colleges for a range of clinical specialties, although the exact allocation per college has not been disclosed. The move follows a broader push to increase the number of qualified doctors in underserved regions.

State health officials expect the additional seats to boost the intake of medical graduates seeking specialization, thereby strengthening the local healthcare workforce over the coming years. Implementation is slated to begin with the upcoming academic session, subject to the colleges completing the necessary infrastructure and faculty requirements.

The approval also aligns with the central government's target of enhancing medical education infrastructure nationwide, ensuring that more students can pursue advanced training without having to relocate to distant institutions.
