The Ministry of Finance announced a new education loan scheme aimed at students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC). The scheme provides loans up to ₹25 lakh with a fixed interest rate of 4% per annum. Eligible students can borrow the full amount for tuition, accommodation, and other educational expenses. Applications will be processed through the existing online portal, with a simplified verification process to expedite approvals. The government expects the initiative to increase higher‑education enrollment among OBC communities and reduce financial barriers to study.
