The Madhya Pradesh government has accelerated the reopening of the dormant Calarass Sugar Mill in Muraina, inviting private firms to submit expressions of interest by September 15 for a 30‑year lease of the 1,250‑TCD plant.

The Calarass Sugar Mill, located in Muraina, Madhya Pradesh, has remained non‑operational for several years. With a processing capacity of 1,250 tonnes of cane per day (TCD), the facility was a significant part of the region's sugar industry before its closure.

In a bid to revive the plant, the state government announced that the mill will be offered on a 30‑year lease to private sector participants. Interested companies have been asked to submit their expressions of interest (EOI) no later than 15 September, as part of an accelerated tendering process aimed at bringing the mill back to production.

Officials indicated that re‑commissioning the mill could generate substantial employment opportunities and boost sugar output in the area, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen the state's agro‑industrial base.

The government’s decision to fast‑track the leasing procedure reflects its commitment to attract private investment and restore the mill’s contribution to the local economy.

Stakeholders are awaiting the submission deadline to assess the level of interest and move forward with the selection of a suitable operator.
