New Delhi – The Ministry of Power issued a directive on Tuesday ordering all captive coal‑based power plants across the country to operate at 100% capacity. The move aims to bolster electricity supply amid rising demand and recent shortfalls in the grid. Plant operators have been asked to submit compliance reports within a fortnight and to ensure that any technical or regulatory hurdles are cleared promptly.
Officials said the directive will help stabilize power availability for industrial users who rely on captive generation, thereby supporting manufacturing output and preventing load‑shedding. The ministry also indicated that the instruction aligns with the government's broader energy security strategy, which includes maximizing existing assets while renewable capacity expands.
