The only vehicle dismantling facility in Goa is currently utilized at only one‑tenth of its designed capacity, officials say.

Goa’s lone vehicle scrapping facility, established to handle end‑of‑life automobiles, is now running at merely ten percent of its intended throughput. The plant, which is the state’s only dedicated centre for dismantling and recycling vehicles, was expected to play a key role in managing automotive waste and recovering valuable materials.

According to recent data, the facility’s utilisation has fallen sharply, with only a fraction of its processing slots being filled. This low occupancy rate raises questions about the volume of scrap vehicles reaching the plant and the efficiency of the collection network that feeds it.

Industry observers note that the under‑performance could affect both environmental targets and the plant’s financial sustainability. Authorities are reportedly reviewing operational strategies to boost intake and ensure the centre meets its waste‑management objectives.

The situation underscores broader challenges in establishing a robust vehicle recycling ecosystem in the state, where regulatory frameworks and market incentives are still evolving.
