The Goa government and industry bodies are launching a campaign to promote the state’s Geographical Indication‑tagged products, such as feni, cashew and spices, to high‑end domestic and export markets.
State officials in Goa have announced a concerted effort to elevate the profile of the region’s Geographical Indication (GI) products. The initiative aims to position items such as the locally produced feni spirit, cashew kernels and a range of traditional spices in premium market segments both within India and abroad.
The plan includes coordinated branding, quality assurance measures and participation in national and international trade exhibitions. By highlighting the unique terroir and cultural heritage behind each GI product, authorities hope to command higher price points and attract discerning consumers.
Industry representatives expect the push to generate increased export orders and create additional income for small‑scale producers. The move also aligns with broader state objectives to diversify Goa’s economy beyond tourism, leveraging its agricultural and artisanal strengths.
Implementation will be overseen by the Department of Industries in partnership with local producer groups, with funding earmarked for market research, packaging upgrades and promotional activities.
