A Goa legislator has claimed that Nepalese citizens have been erroneously added to the state's electoral rolls and that fifty voters were incorrectly shifted during the Summary Revision process.
Goa's legislative assembly member raised concerns that the state's electoral rolls contain entries of Nepalese nationals, a breach of the eligibility criteria for Indian voters. The MLA highlighted that these foreign entries were discovered during a routine verification of the voter database.
In addition to the alleged inclusion of foreign nationals, the legislator pointed out that fifty registered voters were mistakenly shifted to different polling stations during the Summary Revision (SIR) exercise. Such errors could affect the accuracy of the electoral roll and potentially disrupt the voting process.
The claims have prompted calls for an immediate audit of the voter lists by the Election Commission of India, with demands for corrective action to remove ineligible names and rectify the misplaced entries before upcoming elections.
Election officials have not yet responded publicly to the allegations, but the issue underscores the importance of maintaining a clean and accurate voter register to uphold the integrity of the democratic process in Goa.
