Researchers have begun assessing geothermal resources in Pul, aiming to add clean power to Arunachal Pradesh’s energy mix.
State officials and a team of geoscientists have started a field survey in Pul, a remote area of Arunachal Pradesh, to map the region's geothermal potential. The initiative seeks to determine whether the area's underground heat can be harnessed for electricity generation, complementing existing hydro and solar projects.
Arunachal Pradesh, situated along the active Himalayan fault line, is known for its high geothermal gradients, making it a promising candidate for renewable energy development. The survey will involve drilling test wells, measuring subsurface temperatures, and analyzing rock samples to assess feasibility.
If the study confirms viable geothermal reservoirs, the state could diversify its clean‑energy portfolio, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and create new employment opportunities in remote communities. The findings are expected to be compiled into a report for the state government later this year.
