In August, GE Aerospace delivered three more F404 turbofan engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for integration into the LCA Tejas Mk1A fleet.

GE Aerospace completed a shipment of three F404 turbofan engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) during August. The engines are earmarked for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A, the latest variant of India's indigenous fighter program.
The delivery adds to the existing engine inventory that powers the Tejas Mk1A fleet, supporting the aircraft's ongoing production and induction schedule. Each F404 engine is a critical component that enables the Mk1A’s enhanced performance and avionics upgrades.
The transaction underscores the continued partnership between GE Aerospace and HAL, which has been supplying powerplants for the Tejas program since its inception. Both parties have indicated that the supply chain remains on track to meet the Indian Air Force’s operational timelines.
Industry observers note that steady engine deliveries are essential for maintaining the momentum of the Tejas Mk1A rollout, which aims to replace older combat aircraft in the IAF’s inventory.
The latest batch arrives as the Indian defence establishment pushes for greater self‑reliance while still relying on proven foreign technology for key systems.
