GBPUAT to set up dedicated Cow Dung Conservation Centre in Pantnagar

Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology will create a cow‑dung conservation centre on its Pantnagar campus to boost sustainable farming and renewable energy research.
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) has announced the creation of a dedicated cow‑dung conservation centre at its Pantnagar campus. The facility will serve as a hub for research, processing and value‑addition of bovine dung, targeting both agricultural productivity and renewable‑energy generation.
The centre aims to develop technologies for converting dung into organic fertilizers, biogas and other bio‑products, thereby supporting farmers in adopting eco‑friendly practices. GBPUAT plans to involve local farming communities, NGOs and industry partners in pilot projects and training programmes.
Funding for the initiative will come from the university’s own budget, supplemented by state and central government schemes promoting circular‑economy agriculture. Officials expect the centre to become a model for waste‑to‑resource projects across northern India.
By institutionalising dung‑based solutions, GBPUAT hopes to contribute to national goals of organic farming expansion and reduced reliance on chemical inputs, while also creating new livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
