Gautam Gambhir Urges Better Pitch Conditions After Ranchi Run Fest

Former India captain Gautam Gambhir has lodged a second appeal for improved pitch conditions in the span of ten days following the Ranchi run fest. The request, directed at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, highlights concerns over uneven bounce and safety risks for players. Gambhir’s plea follows a similar call made earlier this month, underscoring a persistent issue with the playing surface used during the recent series of matches in Ranchi. The former captain has urged that the pitch be inspected and, if necessary, re‑prepared to meet international standards before the next set of fixtures. His insistence comes amid growing scrutiny from players and coaches over the quality of the ground, which could impact the outcome of upcoming games.

The Ranchi run fest, a series of domestic matches, saw several teams report inconsistent pitch behavior, leading to calls for better maintenance. Gambhir’s second request signals a heightened urgency, as he stresses that a sub‑standard pitch not only compromises player safety but also affects the fairness of competition. The BCCI has yet to respond publicly to the appeal, but the cricketing community is watching closely for any action that may be taken to address the concerns raised.

Gambhir’s advocacy reflects a broader trend of former players engaging in pitch and ground management discussions. By raising the issue publicly, he hopes to prompt swift remedial measures that will benefit both current and future cricketers in the region.
