Around 137 temporary pandals are being set up across the Garo Hills region of Meghalaya as the Hindu community prepares for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.
The Garo Hills area of Meghalaya is gearing up for a major Durga Puja celebration, with 137 makeshift pandals slated to host the rituals and cultural programs. Local Hindu associations have coordinated the layout of the temporary structures, ensuring each pandal meets traditional requirements for the deity's installation.
Community volunteers are busy erecting the pandals, painting intricate motifs, and arranging lighting and sound systems. Residents from nearby villages have contributed materials such as bamboo, cloth and decorative items, reflecting a collective effort that blends religious devotion with regional craftsmanship.
Durga Puja is expected to commence in early October, aligning with the lunar calendar. Authorities have cleared the sites and assured security, while also facilitating traffic management for the influx of devotees and tourists who travel to the hills to witness the festivities.
