Gangster associate gunned down in Mamdot, Punjab; fears of gang war rise

A close associate of gangster Gurpreet was shot dead in Mamdot, sparking concerns of a gang feud in Punjab.
Police officials reported that on Saturday evening a man identified as a close associate of the notorious Punjab gangster Gurpreet was shot dead in the market area of Mamdot. Witnesses said they heard a burst of gunfire and saw the victim collapse.
The injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Law enforcement agencies have opened a case, sealed the crime scene and are canvassing the neighbourhood for additional witnesses.
Authorities warned that the killing could ignite a retaliatory clash between rival criminal groups, noting Gurpreet's known links to several illicit networks in the state. Additional patrols have been deployed in Mamdot and surrounding localities as a precaution.
As of now, no arrests have been made and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. The incident adds to a series of recent gang‑related incidents that have heightened security concerns across Punjab.
