Ganga water level rises in Rishikesh as heavy rains hit Uttarakhand, SDRF and water police deployed

Heavy rain in Uttarakhand has caused the Ganga to swell in Rishikesh, prompting the State Disaster Response Force and water police to be stationed at the city’s ghats.
The Ganga River in Rishikesh rose noticeably on Monday after several days of intense rainfall across Uttarakhand. Local authorities reported that water levels at the main ghats increased by several feet, prompting concerns over possible flooding in low‑lying areas.
In response, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was mobilised to assist with rescue operations and to monitor the riverbanks. Water police units were also positioned at key ghats to regulate crowd movement and ensure public safety.
Officials from the district disaster management team said that, as of now, no injuries or property damage have been reported, but they continue to advise residents and tourists to stay away from the river edge and follow any instructions from on‑site personnel.
The deployment is part of a broader precautionary effort by the Uttarakhand government, which has been issuing weather alerts and urging people to remain vigilant as the monsoon season progresses.
Meteorological data indicate that the region may experience further bouts of heavy rain over the next 48 hours, and authorities are prepared to expand emergency measures if water levels continue to rise.
