The rising water level of the Ganga has forced the Rajmahal Ganga cruise to pause in Bhagalpur, leaving it stranded for nine days. Foreign passengers have been transferred by train to Patna for safety.

The Ganga’s water level surged this week, prompting authorities to halt the Rajmahal Ganga cruise that was navigating the river near Bhagalpur. The vessel, which carries both domestic and foreign tourists, has been anchored at the Bhagalpur dock for nine consecutive days as the flow remains above safe limits.

Operators of the cruise, in coordination with the state tourism department, decided to suspend the journey to avoid any risk of the vessel being swept by the stronger current. Safety officials monitored the situation continuously and advised passengers to remain on board until conditions improved.

Given the prolonged delay, the foreign tourists on board were evacuated on a special train to Patna, where they could disembark and arrange onward travel. The move was described as a precautionary step to ensure passenger welfare while the river recedes to navigable levels.

The incident underscores the impact of seasonal river fluctuations on river‑based tourism in Bihar, with officials urging travelers to stay informed about weather and water‑level advisories before planning cruise trips.
