Heavy rains have caused the Ganga to overflow, submerging large parts of Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh and compelling locals to travel by boat.

The Ganga river rose sharply after continuous heavy rainfall, inundating several villages and towns across Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh. Water levels breached embankments, turning roads into streams and leaving many homes under several feet of water.

Local authorities have declared the area a flood‑affected zone and have deployed rescue teams to assist stranded residents. With roadways impassable, people are now relying on small motorised boats and traditional wooden vessels to move between neighborhoods, reach markets and access medical facilities.

The district administration has set up temporary relief camps on higher ground, providing food, drinking water and basic medical aid. Officials warned that the situation could worsen if the monsoon continues, urging citizens to stay alert and cooperate with rescue operations.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the flood has disrupted daily life for thousands, with agricultural fields and livestock also suffering damage. The state disaster management agency is monitoring the river’s flow and has appealed for additional resources to support ongoing relief efforts.
