India head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed concern over the untested bowling lineup for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, noting the absence of key veterans.
Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has highlighted the team's primary challenge ahead of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand. The coaching staff is particularly focused on the depth and experience level of the bowling unit, which faces a significant test in this upcoming schedule.
The absence of seasoned campaigners like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya has left a void in the bowling attack. Consequently, the team will place considerable reliance on bowlers such as Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh to deliver consistent performances. These players will be expected to step up and fill the gap left by the missing veterans.
Gambhir emphasized that the current bowling lineup is largely untested in this specific combination. He noted that the pressure on these bowlers will be high as they are tasked with maintaining the team's competitive edge in limited-overs cricket. The coach stressed the importance of collective effort in overcoming these personnel challenges.
Furthermore, Gambhir stated that if the team achieves success in this series, the bowlers who carry the load deserve significant recognition. He believes that their contribution will be crucial in determining the outcome of the series, urging the team to support them fully.
