The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has prohibited the sale of compounded asafoetida variants from brands Everest and Laljee Godhoo, effective immediately.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a ban on the sale of compounded asafoetida (hing) powders from the brands Everest and Laljee Godhoo, effective immediately.

The decision follows findings that the products did not meet the required safety and quality standards set for food additives, raising concerns about potential health risks for consumers.

Both brands have faced scrutiny over the use of substandard ingredients and inadequate labeling, prompting the regulatory body to act swiftly to protect public health.

Affected retailers are instructed to remove the banned products from shelves and report any remaining stock to FSSAI. The authorities have also warned that repeated violations could lead to further legal action against the manufacturers.
