Starting 1 November, Haryana will permit only BS‑VI compliant, CNG‑fuelled or electric buses to operate within Delhi, as part of a pollution‑control measure.
The Haryana government announced that from 1 November, the state will restrict entry of its inter‑city buses into the National Capital Region to vehicles meeting the latest BS‑VI emission standards or powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or electricity.
The move aligns with Delhi’s ongoing efforts to curb air pollution and complements the capital’s own ban on older diesel buses. Officials said the policy will encourage fleet operators to upgrade to cleaner technologies.
Transport authorities will monitor compliance through electronic permits and roadside checks. Non‑compliant buses will be barred from entering Delhi and may face penalties.
Industry representatives welcomed the step but cautioned that a phased transition and financial support may be needed for operators to replace aging diesel units.
