Under the PM Surya Ghar programme, 96,500 Jaipur residents who consume less than 150 kWh per month will receive free 1.1 kW solar rooftop systems.
The central government’s PM Surya Ghar initiative will install free solar rooftop systems on the rooftops of households that draw less than 150 units of electricity each month. The scheme aims to promote renewable energy adoption among low‑consumption consumers while reducing grid load.
In the first phase, the Jaipur Discom region will benefit 96,500 eligible consumers. Each household will receive a 1.1‑kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system, sized to meet a modest portion of their electricity needs.
The installations are expected to cut electricity bills for the beneficiaries and contribute roughly 110 MW of clean power generation across the city. By shifting a share of demand to solar, the programme also supports India’s climate targets and reduces dependence on fossil‑fuel‑based generation.
The rollout is being coordinated by the state electricity board in partnership with local contractors, with installations slated to begin in the coming weeks and completed within the fiscal year.
