Four youths drowned after their boat capsized in the Kotadi canal during a Durga idol immersion ceremony in Kota, Rajasthan. Their bodies were recovered on Wednesday by SDRF and NDRF teams.
On Tuesday evening, a small boat carrying four young men capsized in the Kotadi canal in Kota district while they were participating in a Durga idol immersion ritual. The incident occurred as the water level rose near the immersion point, causing the vessel to overturn and the occupants to be thrown into the water.
Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived at the scene early Wednesday. Divers and rescue personnel conducted a thorough search and succeeded in retrieving the bodies of all four victims from the canal.
The immersion ceremony, part of the concluding rituals of the Navratri festival, draws large crowds to the canal each year. Local authorities have reiterated the need for strict adherence to safety guidelines, including the use of life jackets and limiting the number of passengers per boat.
Police have opened a routine inquiry to determine whether any negligence contributed to the tragedy. Meanwhile, community members have expressed grief and called for better crowd management during future religious events.
