Four Indian States Raise Dearness Allowance Ahead of Diwali

Four state governments have announced higher dearness allowance rates for their employees, effective before the Diwali festival.

Four state administrations have issued notifications raising the dearness allowance (DA) payable to their salaried staff. The revisions are scheduled to take effect in the weeks leading up to the Diwali celebrations, aiming to offset the seasonal rise in living costs.
The dearness allowance, a cost‑of‑living component of government wages, is adjusted periodically to reflect inflation. By increasing DA now, the states intend to provide immediate financial relief to employees as consumer prices typically surge during the festive period.
Each state has released its own revised rate structure, with the specific percentages varying according to local wage policies. The announcements were made through official gazettes and departmental circulars, and the new rates will be reflected in the upcoming payroll cycles.
Labour unions and employee associations have welcomed the move, noting that the timing aligns with the heightened expenditure on gifts, clothing and travel that characterises Diwali. The adjustments are expected to improve disposable income for millions of public‑sector workers across the four states.
The governments have also urged employees to verify the updated figures on their respective departmental portals to ensure accurate deductions and benefits.
