A Special Investigation Team arrested four businessmen after finding an illegal bypass pipeline that was channeling chemically contaminated water into the Jojri River in Jodhpur.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up under Supreme Court directions has taken custody of four entrepreneurs in Jodhpur for allegedly discharging hazardous industrial effluent into the Jojri River. During a routine inspection of the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) area, investigators discovered an unauthorized bypass pipeline that was diverting chemically‑laden water directly into the river.
The illegal conduit was identified as part of a broader scheme to evade proper waste treatment, prompting the SIT to launch a focused probe into the responsible firms. The four individuals, identified as owners or senior managers of the implicated enterprises, were arrested on charges of environmental violation and illegal dumping of toxic waste.
Authorities have sealed the pipeline and are conducting further forensic analysis of the discharged water to assess the extent of contamination. The arrests underscore the judiciary’s push for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations in Rajasthan.
