Four effigies, including a cockroach, to be burnt in Delhi protest today

Delhi activists gathered early this morning to declare that four effigies will be set ablaze later in the day. The planned burn includes a representation of a figure named Peetam and, unusually, a full-size cockroach effigy, signaling strong public displeasure.
The inclusion of a cockroach is intended as a symbolic gesture of contempt, a tactic often employed in Indian protests to convey that the target is considered a pest or nuisance. Organisers said the additional effigy underscores the intensity of their grievances.
Local authorities have been notified of the demonstration, and police have deployed a modest security presence to manage crowds and ensure public order. No permits have been reported as required for such gatherings.
As of now, no official statements have been released by the subjects of the effigies or by government representatives, leaving the impact of the protest open to observation.
The event reflects a broader pattern of street-level dissent in the capital, where effigy burning remains a common method of expressing dissent.
