Ashok Gahlot criticised the ongoing caste census, saying the methodology is flawed and the term ‘backward class’ was omitted, and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revise it.

Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gahlot sent a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising concerns over the caste‑based census currently underway.
In the correspondence, Gahlot argued that the government's methodology contains significant errors, most notably the exclusion of the term “backward class” from the questionnaire, which he says undermines the exercise’s purpose.
He urged the central government to revisit and correct the census framework so that all socially and economically disadvantaged groups are accurately captured, stressing that an inclusive count is essential for policy formulation.
The letter, reported by Amar Ujala, reflects growing criticism from regional leaders who fear that an incomplete caste census could affect the allocation of resources and affirmative‑action measures.
