Former Indian Hockey Captain Parag Singh Appointed Punjab Congress State President

Parag Singh, a former captain of the Indian hockey team and a participant in the 2012 London Olympics, has been appointed as the state president of the Punjab Congress. Singh entered politics in 2012 with the Shiromani Akali Dal, contesting his first election from the Jalandhar Cantt constituency. In 2017 he switched allegiance to the Indian National Congress and has since secured three successive victories from the same seat, establishing himself as a prominent regional leader. The Congress high command announced his elevation at a meeting in Chandigarh, citing his blend of sporting stature and electoral experience as assets for reviving the party in the state. Analysts note that Singh's appointment reflects the party's strategy to bring high‑profile personalities into leadership roles ahead of upcoming state elections.
