A former IIT Bombay student said demands for professors to quit after a recent suicide are unreasonable.
A student suicide at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has sparked public outcry, with some groups urging senior faculty to step down. The incident has intensified scrutiny of campus mental‑health support and administrative oversight.
Speaking to the media, a former IIT Bombay alumnus rejected the calls for resignations, describing them as "absurd" and counterproductive. He emphasized that blaming individual professors does not address the systemic issues that may contribute to student distress.
The alumnus urged the institute to focus on strengthening counseling services and creating a more supportive environment rather than pursuing punitive actions against faculty. Authorities have not yet commented on the specific demands.
