Police in Kumher, a town in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, arrested former Congress district president Kavita Fouzdar from her residence on Tuesday. The operation was carried out after a preliminary investigation linked her to a counterfeit Other Backward Class (OBC) certificate.
Authorities allege that Fouzdar used the forged OBC document to qualify for a government job and to meet eligibility criteria for contesting local elections. Investigators say the falsified certificate was presented to both the recruiting authority and the election commission.
The Rajasthan police have lodged a formal FIR under sections pertaining to forgery and cheating. Fouzdar was produced before the local magistrate, and the case has been handed over to the crime branch for further inquiry.
The Congress party has not issued an official comment, while legal experts note that if convicted, Fouzdar could face imprisonment and a ban from contesting future elections.
