Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das said the newly introduced Mines Act will benefit both the state and the nation, aligning mineral policy with development goals.

The central government has introduced a revised Mines Act aimed at modernising mineral extraction and strengthening environmental safeguards. Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das welcomed the legislation, stating that it aligns the state’s rich mineral resources with national development priorities. Das highlighted that Jharkhand, a key contributor to India’s iron ore and coal output, stands to gain from clearer licensing norms and greater revenue transparency. He added that the act’s provisions could attract responsible investment while curbing illegal mining activities. The government has indicated that the new framework will be implemented in phases, with state authorities expected to cooperate closely to ensure compliance.
