Forest officials entered a plantation in Khapa beat of Betul district to stop local villagers from allowing cattle to graze on the protected area. While carrying out the preventive action, they were confronted by a group of residents.
The villagers allegedly used axes and wooden sticks to assault the forest personnel. The attack injured a beat guard, a watchman and a forest guard; two of the three victims sustained serious injuries.
Local police were called to the scene and have registered a case of assault against the accused villagers. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible and to determine the motive behind the violent resistance.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between forest authorities and rural communities over the use of plantation land for livestock grazing, a practice that the forest department says threatens ecological balance.
