The Jalandhar Food Safety Wing seized seven sweet samples for laboratory analysis to verify compliance with safety standards.

The Food Safety Wing operating in Jalandhar district collected seven samples of locally sold sweets as part of its routine surveillance. The samples will be sent to a government‑approved laboratory where they will be examined for common adulterants, pesticide residues and microbial contamination. Officials said the testing is intended to ensure that confectionery sold to consumers meets the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The collection was carried out during a surprise inspection of sweet shops in the city. While the wing did not disclose the exact locations, it confirmed that the operation covered a range of popular sweet varieties. Results of the analysis are expected to be released within the standard turnaround period, after which appropriate action will be taken if any product is found non‑compliant.

The move reflects ongoing efforts by Punjab’s food regulatory authorities to curb adulteration and protect public health, especially ahead of festive seasons when demand for sweets rises sharply.
